How to Make French Toast

There are three important things to know when it comes to making great french toast:

  1. Bread is Important: What type of bread you use to make french toast?  Your Bread of choice definitely matters. Choose a thick cut of bread such as brioche bread, Texas toast, sourdough bread or perhaps some homemade bread. Using a thick cut of bread makes for a fluffy interior and crispy exterior.
  2. It’s all in the Custard: The custard is what gives french toast it’s rich flavor. The custard is made with an egg mixture of egg, milk, vanilla and spices. The consistency of the batter is important. Use a thinner batter for a light toast and a thicker batter for a denser toast.
  3. Heat is key: Use a large skillet and make sure your butter is at the right temperature. Heating the skillet or griddle to medium heat will assure your french toast cooks evenly without burning.
