Sweet and sour chicken is a popular Asian dish that is made with battered and deep-fried chicken pieces that are coated in a sweet and sour sauce. Step 1: Ingredients for Sweet and Sour Chicken

Ingredients for sweet and sour chicken

Chicken Breast, All-Purpose Flour, Cornstarch, Baking Powder, Egg, Pineapple, Ketchup, Rice, Vinegar, Sugar, Red Onion, Red Bell Pepper, Green Bell Pepper, Garlic Powder, White Pepper, Salt and Vegetable oil.

Step 2: Season the Chicken

Season the chicken with garlic powder, white pepper and salt. Mix until your chicken is evenly coated then set it aside until later.

Step 3: Make the Sweet and Sour Sauce

To make the sweet and sour sauce add the sugar and rice vinegar to the ketchup. Whisk until well combined then set it aside until later

Step 4: Make the Batter

To make the batter, combine the flour, baking powder and cornstarch. Add the water and egg then whisk until well combined.

Step 5: Batter and Fry the Chicken

Pour the batter over the chicken then mix until all your pieces are well coated.

Add the vegetable oil to the wok then and using medium high heat bring your pan to temperature. Fry the chicken in small batches for five to seven minutes or until it is golden brown. Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside until later.

Step 6: Saute the Vegetables

After removing most of the oil from the pan add red and green bell peppers and onion then saute for two minutes. Add the pineapple chunks and continue to saute for an additional two minutes

Step 7: Add the Sauce and Return the Chicken

Add the sweet and sour sauce and bring to a light simmer. Return the chicken to the pan and coat with the sauce. After you have coated your chicken, it is ready to serve.

  • 1 ½ lbs Chicken Breast

  • 5 Tbsps All-Purpose Flour

  • 4 tsps Cornstarch

  • ½ tsp Baking Powder

  • 1-8oz can Pineapple Chunks (drained)

  • 6 Tbsps Ketchup

  • 6 Tbsps Rice Vinegar

  • 6 Tbsps Sugar

  • 1 Red Onion

  • 1 Red Bell Pepper

  • 1 Green Bell Pepper

  • ¼ Cup Water

  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

  • ½ tsp White Pepper

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • Vegetable Oil for frying
