Everyone knows that tamales are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. But have you ever had tamales pie? If you haven’t then you are in for a treat. That’s right, tamale pie is a real thing, and it’s absolutely delicious. Tamale Pie has become one of my favorite comfort foods. Just like goulash, shepherds pie and lasagna, It is delicious and leaves you feeling satisfied. It’s perfect for a family gathering or weeknight meal.
We all know that tamales are made by wrapping a filling in a cornmeal dough and then steaming them. Tamale pie however, is made by using a delicious tamale style filling and topped with a cornbread crust. This results in a dish that is both hearty and flavorful.
Ingredients for Tamale Pie:
Tamale Pie is a great weeknight meal. It is easy to make and is made with ingredients you already have. For this recipe you will need the following:
Ground Beef, Mild Cheddar Cheese, Onion, Whole Kernel Corn, Sweet Peas, Stewed Tomatoes, Tabasco Sauce, Canola Oil, Salt, Black Pepper, Jiffy Mix, Eggs and Milk
After preheated the oven to 400 degrees, add the canola oil to the pan and saute the onions. Next add the ground beef then season with the salt and pepper and allow the beef to brown.
Once the ground beef has browned, add the stewed tomatoes, peas and corn. Allow it cook for five minutes.
After five minutes, add the tabasco sauce and the cheese. Allow the cheese to melt then turn off your flame.
To make the corn bread, combine the milk, eggs and one cup of cheese.
Mix just until all of your ingredients have combined.
Place the meat filling in a baking dish then top with the jiffy mix. Transfer to the preheated oven and allow it to cook for 20 minutes.
