How to Make Beef Stew

There are many ways to make Beef Stew but for this recipe I chose to use a slow cooker (crock pot). The key to great tasting stew is to allow the meat to cook low and slow. This will allow the flavors to blend together for the perfect stew.

Step 4: Deglaze the Pot

Next add the tomato paste then pour in the red wine, deglazing the bottom of the pot to gather any flavorful bits.

Step 5: Slow Cook the Beef Stew

Add beef broth to the mix and return the browned beef to the slow cooker.

Season the beef with the remaining salt, the black pepper, paprika, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, and bay leaves. Adjust the slow cooker setting to slow cook, covering it and allowing it to simmer for 2 hours on high.

Step 6: Adding the Vegetables

After the initial 2 hours, add the peas, petite onions, and potatoes. Mix well, cover, and continue cooking for an additional 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the vegetables to become tender.

What to Serve with Beef Stew?

Beef Stew is great in a bowl alone as a complete meal on a chilly weekend night. But I love to eat my beef stew with a hearty slice of bread ( dinner roll, baguette, croissant). Rice and mashed potatoes also go great with stew. The goal is to soak up as much goodness as possible.

Can You Freeze Beef Stew?

Yes! Beef Stew can be frozen. Place the stew in an airtight container (freezer safe container) or freezer bag. Having leftover stew can make for a quick and easy weeknight meal.

This slow-cooker beef stew recipe promises flavor and a tender texture that will warm the hearts of all who partake. This hearty stew has careful layering of ingredients and the slow-cooking process result in a comforting dish that’s perfect for family dinners or a gatherings with friends.
