Hamburger gravy is classic comfort at its simplistic finest. My recipe is made with simple ingredients you already have and is typically served over mashed potatoes or biscuits. It is easy to make and it’s sure to please everyone at the table.

Step 1: Ingredients:

Ground Beef, Butter, All-Purpose Flour, Beef Broth, Half and Half, Worcestershire Sauce, Onion, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Black Pepper and Salt

Step 2: Brown the Ground Beef

Using medium heat bring a pan to temperature then add the ground beef and onion.

Season the beef with the salt and pepper then allow it to brown.

Step 3: Brown Hamburger Gravy Flour

Add the Worcestershire Sauce. Melt the butter then add the flour. Allow the flour to cook for 3 minutes or until it has browned. 

Step 4: Make the Gravy

Pour in the beef broth and “half and half” then bring the liquid to a light simmer. 

Season with the onion powder and the garlic powder. Continue to mix until the gravy has reached your desired thickness.

Key Tips for the Best Hamburger Gravy:

  • For a richer flavor, I used half and half instead of milk.
  • The addition of the Worcestershire Sauce along with the garlic powder and onion powder adds extra flavor.
  • For thicker gravy, cook it for a longer period of time, or add a tablespoon of cornstarch dissolved in 1 tablespoon of cold water to the gravy before simmering.
  • Serve the hamburger gravy immediately, or store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
