Step 1: Ingredients for Soul Food Sweet Potato Pie

Sweet Potatoes or Yams, Sugar, Brown Sugar, Milk, Eggs, Butter, Self-rising Flour, Almond Extract, Vanilla Extract, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ground Ginger, Kosher Salt and Deep Dish Pie Crust.

Step 2: Preparing your Sweet Potatoes

For this recipe I used baked sweet potatoes. Boiling the sweet potatoes is an option but I prefer the flavor baked sweet potatoes yield.

Preheat the oven to 375 degree. Place your sweet potatoes in the oven and cook for 50 minutes. After 50 minutes remove them from the oven and set them aside for 10 minutes to cool. After 10 minutes peel away the skin then place them in your mixing bowl.

Step 3: Mixing the Ingredients for Your Sweet Potato Pie

In a stand mixer, add the  butter eggs, milk, vanilla extract, almond extract, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, ground ginger, salt, nutmeg and flour to your mixing bowl and mix until well combined.

Step 4: Transfer Pie Filling to Shell and Bake

Transfer the pie filling to the pie crusts then place them in the oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees and bake for one hour.

Here are a few tips for making the best pie:

  • Use fresh, sweet potatoes. Canned sweet potatoes can be too watery and will make your pie dry.
  • Don’t overmix the filling. Overmixing can make the pie tough.
  • The pies should be baked until the filling is set. An underbaked pie will be runny.
  • Make sure to let the pies cool completely before serving. This will help the filling set and make it easier to slice.

I hope you enjoy this recipe! It’s the perfect pie for any occasion, and I know you are gonna love it.
