Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ziti pasta
- 2 23 oz jars marinara sauce
- 1 small onion diced
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 Tbsp fresh parsley chopped
- 1 egg
- 16 oz ricotta cheese
- 16 oz mozzarella cheese shredded (divided)
- 1 cup parmesan cheese grated (divided)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp red pepper flakes
- 2 1/2 tsp salt divided
- 2 tsp black pepper divided
- 1/2 tsp salt for pasta water, from transcript
Method
- Preheat to 350°F.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta, 1/2 cup mozzarella, and 1/2 cup parmesan. Add parsley and egg. Season with 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp black pepper. Mix well; set aside.
- Boil water, add 1/2 tsp salt, cook ziti 10 minutes, drain, and set aside.
- Heat Dutch oven over medium. Add ground beef and onion; cook 3 minutes.
- Add remaining salt and pepper, then garlic; brown 3 more minutes.
- Stir in marinara sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 10 minutes.
- Sauce in dish → pasta → mozzarella → ricotta mixture. Repeat: sauce → pasta → mozzarella.
- Add final sauce layer, then top with remaining mozzarella and remaining parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 minutes more.
