Ingredients

  • 2 Russet potatoes
  • all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt (divided)
  • 1 water
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, and onion powder.
  2. Whisk the dry ingredients together until well combined.
  3. Add ¾ cup of water to the dry mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Using a spiralizer, cut the potatoes into curly shapes. (If you don’t have a spiralizer, a hand spiral cutter will work.)
  5. Rinse the curly-cut potatoes with cold water, then pat them dry with a paper towel.
  6. Place the potatoes on a wire rack to remove excess moisture.
  7. Dip the spiralized potatoes into the batter, making sure they are evenly coated.
  8. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Fry the curly fries in small batches for about 4 minutes, or until they turn crispy and golden brown.
  10. Remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  11. While still hot, sprinkle the fries with the remaining sea salt for extra flavor.
  12. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces!
