Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups pecans
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Heat a medium-sized pan over medium heat until it’s warm, then melt the butter in the pan.
  2. Add the sugar, brown sugar, and evaporated milk to the pan. Stir continuously until the sugars have fully dissolved into the mixture. Add Salt and Vanilla: Stir in the salt and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the pecans and stir the mixture until it begins to thicken. This step helps coat the pecans in the sweet syrup.
  4. Once the mixture thickens, spoon out portions of it onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper to form pralines. Let the pralines sit and cool on the parchment paper until they are fully set and ready to serve.

Notes

Reminder: since humidity can be a factor with moisture in the air preventing pralines from hardening. Ways to avoid this include: make sure to cook them long enough; perhaps on a dry day, for best results!
