Ingredients
- 3 lbs beef short ribs
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
- canola oil
- brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried mustard
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 2 tablespoons salt
Method
- Set your oven to 300°F (150°C) to get it ready for slow baking. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, cumin, and dried mustard. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated.

- Place the short ribs in a large bowl. Drizzle them with canola oil and liquid smoke, then toss until the ribs are fully coated. Generously rub the seasoning mixture onto each rib, making sure they're well covered on all sides.

- Place the short ribs in the preheated oven. Bake for 2½ hours, uncovered, until the ribs are tender and cooked through. Brush the ribs with your favorite barbecue sauce. Switch your oven to a low broil setting, return the ribs to the oven, and broil for 5 minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize and get sticky.

- Let the ribs rest a few minutes before serving. Pair with your favorite sides like mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, or cornbread for the ultimate meal.
