Shrimp Dirty Rice (with Ground Beef and Sausage)

One-pan shrimp dirty rice with beef, sausage, Creole spices, and tender shrimp stirred in at the end.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb mild Italian sausage
  • 1/2 lb shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 3 cups par-boiled rice
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper diced
  • 2 ribs celery diced
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 3 tsp Creole seasoning divided (1 tsp for shrimp + 2 tsp for the pan)
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt adjust to taste
  • 2 tbsps olive oil
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups chicken broth add as needed to moisten and simmer

Method
 

  1. Toss shrimp with 1 tsp Creole seasoning; set aside.
  2. Heat skillet over medium heat; add olive oil.
  3. Cook shrimp 3 minutes; remove and set aside.
  4. Add beef and sausage; brown 5 minutes.
  5. Add onion and garlic; stir well.
  6. Add bell peppers and celery; stir well.
  7. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, thyme, cayenne, and remaining Creole seasoning.
  8. Stir in rice, then add chicken broth; mix well.
  9. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  10. Stir shrimp back in and simmer 3 minutes.
