Sweet Potato Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 3 lbs Sweet Potatoes or Yams
  • 1 ¼ Sugar
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Milk
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Self-rising Flour
  • 1 tsp Almond Extract
  • 2 Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 2 Pie Crust (Deep Dish)

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degree. Place your sweet potatoes in the oven and cook for 50 minutes. After 50 minutes remove them from the oven and set them aside for 10 minutes to cool.
  2. After 10 minutes peel away the skin then place them in your mixing bowl.
  3. Add your butter (melted) to the mixing bowl then mix until well combined. Add the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, almond extract, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, ground ginger, salt, nutmeg and flour to your mixing bowl and mix until well combined.
  4. Transfer the pie filling to your pies then place your pies in the oven that has been preheated to 350 degree and bake for one hour.
  5. After one hour remove them from the oven and place them on a wire rack to cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a smooth, creamy pie filling, bake the sweet potatoes instead of boiling them. Baking your sweet potatoes concentrates the natural sweetness and keeps the pie filling from becoming watery. Once baked, let them cool slightly before peeling to lock in flavor and moisture.
  • Sweet Potato Pie can be made a day in advance! After baking, let it cool completely, then cover and refrigerate. For the best flavor, serve at room temperature or gently warm slices before serving
