Chicken piccata is a classic Italian dish made with thin piece of chicken breast cutlets cooked in a lemon and buttery sauce. Originating in Italy, this recipe was traditionally made with veal. However, because chicken is more readily available and more cost effective, it has become the meat of choice. It’s an elegant dish that is perfect for a special occasion or any night of the week. This chicken recipe is usually served over pasta, however It can be served with rice or potatoes on the side. However you chose to prepare it, your family will love it.

How to Make Chicken Piccata

To make chicken piccata, you should begin with thin chicken breast cutlets. The chicken breast is floured then sautéed until golden brown. The chicken is removed from the pan then the sauce is made. It is then returned back to the pan and simmered in the sauce until cooked through.

2. Preparing the Chicken Piccata

Step 1: Prepare the Flour

Prepare the flour by placing it in a shallow dish. whisk together the flour, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper.

Step 2: Coating the Chicken

Place the chicken cutlets in the shallow dish with flour then dredge the chicken in the flour mixture. Make sure to coat the chicken completely then place them on a wire rack.

Step 3: Cooking the Chicken Piccata

Using medium heat, bring a frying pan to temperature then add the butter and olive oil. Once your oil has reached medium temperature, cook the chicken for 3 minutes on each side. When done, remove the chicken from the pan and set them aside.

4. Making the Sauce

To make the sauce, add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute.

Next, add the chicken broth, wine, lemon juice, parsley and capers and bring to a light simmer.

5. Return the Chicken

Return the chicken to the pan then allow it to cook for an additional three to five minutes. After five minutes it is ready to serve.

  • 1- 1/2 lbs Chicken Breast (Thin)

  • 2 Tbsps Capers

  • 4 cloves Garlic

  • 3 Tbsps Butter

  • 2 Tbsps Olive Oil

  • 4 Tbsps All-Purpose Flour

  • 4 Tbsps Parmesan Cheese

  • 2 Tbsps Lemon Juice

  • 3/4 Cup Chicken Broth

  • 1/4 Cup White Wine

  • 1 Tbsp Parsley Flakes

  • 1 tsp Black Pepper

  • 1 tsp Salt

Directions

  • In a dish whisk together the flour, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper.
  • Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture then place them on a wire rack.
  • Using medium heat, bring a frying pan to temperature then add the butter and olive oil.
  • Cook your chicken for 3 minutes on each side then remove and set aside.
