Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie Recipe
Last Updated on February 7, 2026 by Barbara
There is something about pulling a tray of warm cookies out of the oven that makes a house feel like a home. While the standard chocolate chip cookie is a classic for a reason, adding toasted walnuts takes the whole experience to a different level. It’s that perfect, soulful harmony of melted chocolate, buttery dough, and a crunch that make things interesting.
I love this recipe because it’s a study in textures. Every bite reveals that soft, chewy center I crave, balanced by the wholesome richness of the walnuts. It’s the kind of treat that delights all the senses at once. I have refined this process to make it as simple and approachable as possible, ensuring you get bakery quality results right in your own kitchen. Whether you’re baking for a school bake sale or just a quiet Sunday afternoon, these cookies are a guaranteed hit. Let me show you how I get that never flat, chewy meets crunchy cookie every time!
How to Make Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies
The key to great cookies are:
- Fresh Ingredients – always use fresh ingredients for optimum taste.
- Room temperature ingredients – ensure the butter and eggs are at room temperature.
- Chilling the cookie dough (The Never Flat Secret) – reduces the spreading of the cookie dough while cooking.

Ingredients for Cookies
All-Purpose Flour, Baking Powder, Baking Soda, Brown Sugar, Eggs, Vanilla Extract, Chocolate Chips and Walnuts.
Instructions for Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies
Step 1: Prepping for Baking
Begin by preheating your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Ensure all your ingredients are at room temperature for optimal blending.
Step 2: Preparing the Dry Mixture
In a spacious bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk these ingredients thoroughly until they’re well incorporated. Set this dry mixture aside for later use.
Step 3: Creaming the Sugars and Butter
Using a stand mixer (or a hand mixer), blend together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and butter until they form a creamy, consistent mixture.
Step 4: Incorporate Wet Ingredients
Gradually add the eggs one at a time, ensuring they’re fully integrated. Pour in the vanilla extract, continuing to mix the ingredients together.
Step 5: Blend Ingredients
Slowly introduce the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients. Allow the mixer to combine them evenly, forming a cohesive dough.
it’s time to elevate the dough’s flavor profile. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts, ensuring they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Chill the Dough by placing in the refrigerator for at least an hour. This resting period not only melds the flavors but also helps the cookies retain their shape during baking.
Step 6: Baking the Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies
After the chilling time is up, remove the cookie dough from the refrigerator. Using a 1/4 cup scoop, form the dough into individual cookies.
*Positioning for Baking: Note the type of oven you have – for electric ovens, place the cookies on the lower rack, while for gas ovens, opt for the top rack. Slide the prepared cookies into the preheated oven. Let them bake for 13 to 17 minutes, or until they achieve that perfect golden color.
Once baked, carefully remove the cookies from the oven. Transfer them onto a wire rack to allow them to cool further.
