What Type of Bread is used for French Toast?

For this recipe I chose Texas Toast but Brioche, Challah, French Baguette or Sourdough are all great choices. Just ensure your selection of bread is preferably slightly sweet and substantial enough to absorb the custard. This is important for great french bread.

Step for Making Banana Foster French Toast

Step 1: Mixing the French Toast Batter

In a small bowl, combine nutmeg, sugar, cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Whisk these dry ingredients until well blended. In another dish, whisk together eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Gradually combine the dry and wet ingredients, stirring until you have a smooth batter.

Step 2: Preparation of French Toast Slices

Dip each slice of bread into the prepared batter, ensuring both sides are thoroughly coated. Place the soaked slices on a wire rack to allow any excess batter to drip off, ensuring the perfect texture when cooked.

Step 3: Cooking the French Toast

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Place the coated bread in the pan and cook for 3 minutes on each side, until they are golden-brown. Once done, set aside the French toast slices.

Step 4: Making the Banana Foster

For the Banana Foster topping, start by cutting the bananas into slices. Heat a pan over medium heat and melt the butter. Add brown sugar and cinnamon to the melted butter, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Incorporate the banana slices and cook until they begin to simmer.
