The ultimate chocolate cake recipe: A decadent treat for any occasion

Chocolate cake is a classic dessert that has stood the test of time. It is perfect for almost any occasion, from birthdays to holidays to simply enjoying a sweet treat. This recipe is moist, rich, and full of chocolate flavor. It’s made with rich dark cocoa with chocolate cream cheese icing. It’s also relatively easy to make, even for beginner bakers. This cake can be a stand alone dessert or can be added to your holiday dessert table along with peach cobbler, apple pie, chocolate chip cookies and banana pudding.

1. Ingredients

This recipe has many ingredients but most of which you can find in your refrigerator or pantry. You will need:

all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, dark cocoa powder, canola oil, vanilla extract, salt, milk, eggs, water, cream cheese butter, dark cocoa powder, cinnamon, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, heavy cream and baker’s chocolate

2. Mix Ingredients for Chocolate Cake

Make sure to preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans. For this cake instead of flour I used chocolate powder

Using a stand mixer, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Add the milk, eggs, oil, and vanilla extract. Next pour in the hot water and mix until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

In a large bowl, cream together the cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy.

Beat in the cocoa powder, cinnamon, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream until smooth.

Frost the cooled cakes and garnish with shaved baker’s chocolate.

  • Cake:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 3/4 cup dark cocoa powder

  • 1/2 cup canola oil

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup hot water

  • Icing:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup dark cocoa powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 4 tablespoons heavy cream

  • Shaved baker’s chocolate, for garnish

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.

  • Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting.
