A fresh salad or a light bean salad complements the richness of the dish, keeping it light and refreshing. Why Do Americans Say Shrimp Scampi?

Shrimp scampi is a beloved Italian-American dish featuring shrimp cooked in a delicious sauce. However, the term “scampi” actually refers to a lobster-like crustacean, which is not readily available in the United States. Consequently, the popular dish we know and love is typically made with shrimp as a substitute.

What to Do With Leftovers Shrimp Scampi

If you happen to be one of the lucky ones and have leftover Shrimp Scampi then proper storage is easy to do. Make sure that any dish you put in the refrigerator has been cooled. Place what’s left of your scampi in an air tight container. Shrimp scampi can be kept in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.

Want to freeze it for longer? No problem! Again allow the scampi to completely cool. Portion it into freezer-safe containers or bags, leaving a bit of space for expansion. Seal them up tight and label with the date. Your frozen scampi will be good for up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to enjoy it again:

  • From the fridge: Gently reheat it on the stovetop over low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
  • From the freezer: Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator. Then, reheat it on the stovetop as described above.

Enjoy your delicious Shrimp Scampi whenever the craving strikes!
